The term “facelift” often refers to many different facial procedures. For example, a traditional facelift has an incision that extends from one ear over the hairline to the other ear. Most surgeons prefer new and less invasive procedures such as the short scar facelift and the endoscopic brow lift instead of a full facelift. In contrast, a short-scar facelift involves making an incision in front of the ear and lifting the sagging jowls. This procedure may be combined with a brow lift if needed
Before & After
A short-scar facelift takes two to three hours, whereas a traditional full facelift takes four to five hours.
For a short-scar facelift, an incision begins just above the ear, goes behind the tragus (pointy cartilage in front of ear) and ends behind the ear. The incision line is quite minimal and well hidden. These scars are treated with LASER post surgery to further minimize their appearance. Laser treatment flattens the scar and reduces redness.
Pain is usually minimal and controls nicely with oral medications. You will experience bruising and swelling for one to two weeks. Dressings stay on for the first 48 hours and stitches are removed 5-7 days post surgery. You can resume normal activities the next day after surgery, however, you should avoid rigorous activities for two weeks.
A facelift corrects facial droopiness by removing excess skin and re-suspending muscles and tissue. Fine wrinkles will show some improvement with a face-lift. To achieve a superb result, our surgeons combine LASER resurfacing with the facelift procedure. Laser resurfacing corrects fine lines, sun damage and broken blood vessels.
