Cellulite is the bane of just about every woman. No matter what kind of shape you’re in, just about everyone has at least some degree of cellulite on the upper thighs and buttocks. It all comes down to the way the female body has fibrous bands that section off fat into small areas. On the surface, this creates the well-known dimpling.
At the Laser Center of Maryland, we now put our lasers on the job zapping those bands and your cellulite along with it. The procedure is called CelluSmooth, and it improves cellulite in one treatment.
How does CelluSmooth work?
The CelluSmooth laser is manufactured by Sciton, a leader in aesthetic lasers. This laser delivers laser wavelengths in three different modes to break down the fibrous bands, melt some of the fat layer beneath the skin, and trigger a repositioning of cells to smooth the surface skin.
CelluSmooth delivers its energy through a small laser fiber that is inserted through the epidermis. Once there, it delivers laser energy to break the fibrous bands that connect the epidermis to the dermis beneath, and which trap pockets of fat. These bands pull downward, creating the dimpling identified with cellulite.
Beyond breaking those bands, the laser energy melts the uneven layer of fat that lies beneath the skin. This smoothes and firms the surface skin. When laser energy is delivered into the dermis, it also works to trigger a wound response in the body, which builds new collagen and sends it to the area.
What are the benefits of CelluSmooth?
CelluSmooth is the latest generation treatment for cellulite and provides these benefits:
- It is minimally invasive (requiring only a tiny hole to insert the laser fiber)
- Requires only local anesthesia
- Causes only limited swelling and bruising
- Fights cellulite on three levels: fibrous bands, thin skin, and protruding fat
- Delivers rapid, long-lasting results
What is a CelluSmooth procedure like?
We use a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area. Then we insert the laser fiber and direct its laser energy throughout the site. We then move to the next area and so forth. Treatment time averages one to two hours, depending on the area being treated.
