So much for the Wonderbra!

A new study by French scientist Jean-Denis Rouillon claims that bras are not needed, and may actually do more harm than good. Rouillon, a scientist from the University of Franche-Comte, has spent 15 years studying 130 women with different bust sizes. According to his research “…the bra is not needed. Medically, physiologically, anatomically, the breast does not benefit from being deprived of gravity.” He also believes the “absence of a bra could keep breasts in shape” and prevent back ache. Forty-two percent of women felt some discomfort for the first three months when not wearing a bra, but this dissipated with time.
It is interesting to note that his results are an unexpected finding. Multiple previous studies have shown that women who do not wear a sports bra while exercising could be damaging their breasts by stretching supporting ligaments.
