Cellulite 101

By March 27, 2014 No Comments

As spring (slowly) gets here, we’ve been fielding more and more questions about our new CelluSmooth laser for cellulite treatment. With that in mind we’ve put together a little Q&A.
Q: What exactly is cellulite?
A: There are three structural changes that are responsible for cellulite. There is fat which herniates or pushes into the dermis causing raised areas, fibrous bands which connect skin to underlying tissue and result in “valley” or dimples, and laxity of the dermis which allows both the dimpling and raised areas to occur.
Q: Why do some people get cellulite and others don’t?
A: The cause of cellulite has many factors. Hormonal changes, genetics, age, gender and skin quality (ie. sun damage) can all affect the development of cellulite. Interestingly, you can have it whether you are heavy or thin.
Q: How does CelluSmooth work to correct cellulite?
A: We insert a small cannula under the skin. Using thermal energy from a laser, we are able to release the fibrous bands, melt the excess fat, and increase the elasticity and thickness of the skin.
Q: What is the recovery time for this procedure?
A: Most clients go back to work the next day. For two weeks after treatment clients wear a compression garment similar to body shapers. There is some bruising associated with the procedure, but it typically resolves within 10 days or so.
Q: How many treatments will I need?
A: Unlike most treatments (Vela Smooth, Endermologie etc) CelluSmooth is a single treatment. This effective treatment banishes the dimply appearance of cellulite!
