Everyone knows about laser liposuction technology. Ever since it came to the U.S. from France in the 1980s it’s been a popular cosmetic procedure. But what was once a relatively violent procedure that caused extensive tissue trauma and bruising has become better and better with new techniques and technologies.
What is Laser Liposuction Technology?
At the Laser Center of Maryland we use some of that new technology, adding laser energy to liposuction to make removing the fat easier, while tightening the skin at the same time!
We use the Sciton ProLipo Laser in our liposuction procedures. This unique system delivers laser energy via a thin fiber to the treatment areas. The laser energy converts to heat and melts the fat, all the while triggering a skin tightening response from the body.
How is Laser Center laser lipo better than traditional liposuction?
The laser energy makes the fat in the target area much easier to break loose and remove, if it doesn’t melt it outright. In traditional liposuction, the cannula must be moved around aggressively to break loose the fat pockets for suction.
But the main improvement with the laser energy is the skin tightening. The heat energy makes the body think it has received a wound. The response is to produce new collagen for the area. And since collagen is the skin’s support system (but whose production drops as we age), the skin tightens in the months following your procedure. This does not happen with traditional liposuction.
What areas can be treated with Laser Liposuction?
- Back of the neck
- Upper arms
- Upper back
- Upper and lower abdomen
- Love handle and flanks
- Hips and waist
- Inner and outer thighs
- Inside of the knees
- Male breasts
Laser liposuction at the Laser Center of Maryland does not require general anesthesia or even IV sedation. A saline solution mixed with adrenaline and Lidocaine (a local anesthetic) is injected into the treatment area at the start of the procedure. This both keeps you comfortable and the adrenaline shrinks your blood vessels, minimizing blood loss and bruising.
Gone are the months of bruising and involved recovery that was a part of original liposuction methods. Most laser lipo patients can be back at work in just a day or two.
